MATCH REPORT

U9 Girls v Ambleside

13th December 2020

Today the girls welcomed Ambleside to Kilsby Lane for the return fixture in some pretty cold and wet conditions!

Rugby Borough took a few minutes to get into the swing of things but once they were in the swing of things they really dominated the match and surprised Ambleside following the match earlier in the season.

Willow played in goal and the few attempts that were made by Ambleside in the first three quarters were saved brilliantly. In the final quarter she played out on the field and got stuck in to some lovely challenges.

Isla as ever showed some real grit and was determined to win the ball in challenges and wasn’t remotely put off by Ambleside players going for the same ball.

Isabel had another great game and she seemed to be the one revelling in the conditions. There was some lovely play with Mia where they were passing the ball to each other and applying pressure to the Ambleside defence.

Elizabeth stepped up to play with the under 9’s and proved valuable in our defence and wasn’t afraid to try and score some goals.

Lara is becoming a really consistent player chasing down the ball and nicking possession from the opposition. She did lots of running around and switched well from defence to midfield.

Brooke battled hard for the team running the ball down the wings and interrupting Ambleside attacks. She also did some impressive free kicks and throw ins to get the rest of the team some lovely opportunities in the penalty area.

Mia played dominantly all match and showed that she can read the game well, always looking for the pass to a team mate as well as taking plenty of opportunities herself. She jumped in to goal for the final 10 minutes to give Willow a chance to warm up on the field!

Mia was awarded player of the match for working hard, creating and capitalising on goal scoring opportunities. Well done Mia.

Both sides showed incredible attitudes considering the conditions they were playing in. Well done girls!
