CLUB DOCUMENTS, Safeguarding & Welfare

Rugby Borough Junior FC takes its responsibility for player welfare incredibly seriously.

The Club recognises that this encompasses everything we do to safeguard players from harm, but also ensuring that the Club is properly organised and run, that standards of expected behaviour are clear and communicated to all, and that we actively work towards delivering an offering that is FA ‘Future Fit’.

In this section you will find information on:

Safeguarding & Welfare

Rugby Borough Junior FC has a key role to play in safeguarding the welfare of all children and young people by protecting them from physical, sexual or emotional harm and from neglect or bullying.

To that end, child safety and welfare is paramount to us and we have a robust safeguarding policy. We have rigorous procedures for ensuring that our prospective volunteers are of good character, including obtaining FA Enhanced DBS checks for all.

We additionally ensure that no coach has responsibility for assisting or supervising children in a coaching capacity without them holding the appropriate in-date qualifications to do so.

Rugby Borough Junior FC commitment:

Rugby Borough FC acknowledges its responsibility to safeguard the welfare of all children and young people (defined as any person under the age of 18) involved in our football club which it organises, or which it supervises. We are committed to working to provide them with a safe environment to play in.

The club is committed to ensure that every child or young person, who plays or participates in football should be able to take part in an enjoyable and safe environment and should be protected from abuse. This is the responsibility of every adult involved in football. The club aligns itself with the procedures set out by the FA.

The key principles of Rugby Borough FC and the FA’s Child Protection Policy are that:

  1. The child’s welfare is, and must always be the paramount consideration.
  2. All children and young people have the right to be protected from abuse regardless of their age, gender, disability, culture, language, racial origin, religious beliefs or sexual orientation.
  3. All suspicions and allegations of abuse will be taken seriously and responded to swiftly and appropriately.
  4. Working in partnership with other organisations, children and young people and their parents/carers is essential.

All parents or carers that have concerns over the welfare of a child are encouraged to speak to their team manager, coach, or the Head of Welfare.

Sometimes a concern may arise from something trivial – it might be ‘just a feeling’, a subtle change in a players attitude, confidence or behaviour. If something feels ‘off’, report it. All concerns will be taken seriously.
