Frequently Asked Questions
Not sure which part of the pathway is right for your daughter, or whether she can do more than one? Here’s what parents ask us most.
Can my daughter play grassroots football and join the ATC at the same time?
Yes, absolutely. The ATC is designed to sit alongside grassroots football. Sessions run on Monday evenings, so they won't clash with Sunday team commitments. Many girls do both.
Can my daughter play for her Sunday grassroots team and join the FTP?
Yes. The FTP runs training sessions during the week and JPL Warriors fixtures on Saturdays, which means Sunday grassroots football carries on as normal. We actively encourage girls to keep playing for their grassroots team alongside the talent pathway.
What's the difference between the ATC and the FTP? Which one is right for my daughter?
The ATC is an additional development session for girls who want to improve faster while staying in grassroots football. The FTP is a full performance programme - with two training sessions per week, Saturday national league matches, and individual development plans - for players ready to compete at a higher level. The FTP is the bigger commitment of the two.
At what age can my daughter join each part of the pathway?
- Grassroots Girls Football - from age 5 - 18
- Advanced Training Centre (ATC) - from age 7 - 15
- Female Talent Pathway (FTP) - U12 and U16 for 2026/27, with trials in May 2026
- Women's U21s - for players progressing from the pathway into senior football
- First Team - open to players ready for Tier 3 national league football
Do girls need to be with Rugby Borough to join the FTP or U21s?
Not necessarily. The FTP runs open trials, so any girl of the right age and ability is welcome to apply regardless of which club she currently plays for.
Who should I contact if I'm not sure which pathway is right for my daughter?
Get in touch with us directly and we'll help you work it out. There's no pressure - we just want to make sure every girl ends up in the right environment for where she is right now.
