U13s Present Shirt to Katie
Rugby Borough U13 Girls took time out at half time during the weekends 8-2 home win against Hinckley Town as they welcomed back former player and friend Katie Ray.
Always a very popular member of the team, Katie left in March this year to concentrate all of her efforts full time on her swimming. A very talented swimmer with City of Coventry Swimming Club elite squad, smashing PB’s across all strokes. The 3:30am early morning rises are clearly paying off for Katie rather than the soggy Sunday afternoon football matches.
Katie spent 4 years with the club, initially as a trainer only as a young 8 year old in 2016, eventually joining the team and playing for 3 seasons in the Leicester Girls League. She was part of our very successful U10s team that went on to win the Leicester Girls League Cup Final in the 17/18 season who also went unbeaten the whole year and was also a member of the team that made the finals the following year too but came away as cup runner’s up for the U11s.
Coaches Paul and Des thanked Katie for her time playing for the team and presented her with her No6 shirt that she wore in her final season complete with good luck messages and signatures of her team mates from last year. Des said that having started as a youngster who could only just kick the ball, Katie was always willing to listen and learn and it was great to see her finish it all off as a very competent and confident player in the team. Paul added that Katie was always usually the first to training most weeks and that she would be his pick of players who improved the most over the last 4 years and the whole team at Rugby Borough will miss her.
Good luck with the swimming Katie and we hope to see you winning lots of medals for Great Britain at the Olympics in the future.
