This morning the girls travelled away to Market Bosworth.  Our girls knew that they were in for their biggest challenge yet as Market Bosworth had a 100% win rate so far this season and we’ve never beaten them before, this along with missing 4 players meant they would be in for a tough battle.

The girls started off quickly with Lexie making a magnificent run up the left wing and put in a great cross that found its way to Anna who first time smashed the ball high into the back of the net.  This gave the girls the confidence they needed & they were determined from then on to hold onto the lead.  The opposition didn’t have a 100% for nothing and it was inevitable they would try to get back on level terms however the Boro girls were not allowing them time on the ball.  Jess in CDM was constantly tacking & making crucial interceptions.   When the opposition did break through, they were met with a very resolute and determined back three in Ese, Peyton & Ava.   All 3 of them remained switched on throughout the entire game making some fantastic tackles including an excellent goal line clearance from Ava.

Rugby were still creating chances of their own & extended the lead in the 20^th minute where Ruby who lead the line brilliantly held the ball up & then played a superb through pass to Megan who made the forward run to break the defensive line.   Megan strode forward & calmly slotted home to give the team a 2-goal cushion.

Mia pushed forward to CAM and showed her threat from the edge of the box hitting a great effort that was turned around the post by the Bosworth keeper.  Mia covered various positions throughout the game & was her usual excellent self in all of them.Right at the end of the half the ref awarded a penalty to Market Bosworth that left everyone in attendance scratching their heads.  The feeling of injustice was quickly replaced with relief when Chloe brilliantly saved the spot kick.

Into the second half and the girls were determined not to let the opposition back into the game.  They really defended as a team with Anna & Lexie tracking back where needed to put pressure on the Bosworth players.   Peyton was clearing anything that came into the box.  Ese and Ava in the full back positions were defending expertly to stop any attacks down the flanks.    The game was end to end at this stage although clear chances were minimal for both teams due to a great midfield battle.    Mia, Megan and Jess were in the heart of it making sure the press was instant and also enabling the team to play out to Ruby who held the ball up brilliantly to start Rugby attacks.   Chloe was showing some great handling and awareness to collect the ball at the right times to relieve any pressure.

Towards the end Ruby had a chance to make it three however after great control & a good strike it flashed just over the bar.   Market Bosworth threw everything at it in the search of a goal but the Rugby defending was superb with the girls putting everything on the line to keep the zero.

The work rate & teamwork was a joy to watch,  this sprinkled with some real quality in front of goal gave the girls a well-deserved victory against tough opposition.

We had two players of the match this week as it was impossible to seperate them.  Ava was immense at LB & equally Chloe was outstanding in goal.
