MATCH REPORT

U13 Girls v Kibworth

12th September 2023

The U13 girls were back at Kilsby Lane this week for their first home game of the season versus Kibworth, another newly promoted team, who had dominated their league last year.

Unfortunately our roving reporter was doing a bit too much roving and managed to miss the first 5 minutes of the game and subsequently the first 2 goals 🤦🏻‍♀️. But we have it on good authority that Mia played a lovely ball out to the left wing to Maisie, who cut inside her marker, to fire a shot into the top corner, this was closely followed by a return assist when Maisie passed the ball for Mia to strike into the bottom corner.

Then without even having a chance to sit down our reporter had to switch on when Isla passed the ball to Jess who hit it low and hard to get goal number 3 and again within a couple of minutes Borough won a corner which Isla crossed perfectly into the box for Maisie to finish.  Phew 8 minutes and 4 goals in and it’s time to take a seat.

Despite Boroughs fast start Kibworth were counter attacking at every opportunity, one of these resulted in a goal, which could have been a lot more had it not been for our sturdy defensive unit consisting of Ava, Peyton, Lexie and Faith, all four of these girls have grown into their roles in defence, with differing attributes, but great organisation which results in solid performances, along with Chloe who made some great saves, we were  impressed by the ‘double save’ first with her feet and then her hands.

Dee had another fine performance showing her versatility in various positions and creating lots of chances.  In midfield Maia was winning the ball back and driving forward, this led to Ruby receiving the ball and passing it off to Megan to finish neatly.  Another good corner, this time taken by Anna, fell to Ruby who controlled the ball before cooly placing it into the net.  More passing and communication saw Megan assist Isla in a great goal which meant it was 7-1 at half time.

Half time oranges and a team talk about continuing to pass the ball went down well.  The second half slowed in goal pace but showed lots of team work, good passing, more communication and lots of smiles.

Anna who had been making great crosses all day found herself travelling up the wing, but this time rather than passing she had the goal in sight and scored a blinder straight over the keeper.  Not 10 minutes later she made another cross to Isla who shot straight past the keeper for her second goal.

Another excellent team performance from the girls, it was especially nice to see the girls enjoying their football and getting on as a team 🧡

Player of the match was Mia who delivered another excellent performance throughout
