MATCH REPORT

U13 Girls v Harborough Town

27th December 2023

Last Sundays match was the 3rd round of the County Cup versus Harborough Town and the excitement was building, mainly for the yummy chips and curry sauce they serve in the club house 😋

The girls started exactly how they meant to go on, with kick off link up between Megan and Ruby which saw Ruby score immediately.  Borough spent the majority of the match pushing forward, with many of the girls having shots at goal.  Ruby, who took complete control of the match, received the ball and made a lovely turn, firing in her second.

The wind and slight slope of the pitch found the ball being blown out of play more often than usual, Peyton had to work hard to chase the ball to keep it in play.  The opposition won a corner which made its way into our box, but Ava was there to make a massive clearance.

Lexie who was playing on the wing and making some fantastic runs had a shot which rebound off their keeper, Ruby ran onto the ball and scored her hat trick.

Freya was showing her skill by winning the ball back and playing it back into the middle of the pitch to create more chances.  Chloe had a quiet game but did have to make one diving save when the ball bounced off the back of a player and headed her way.

Lexie made another cross into the box, this time to find Freya who perfectly shot and scored her first goal for Rugby Borough.  Back up for a kick off and Freya then sends a lovely ball straight through the middle to Ruby who goes straight through 2 more players to score again.

By this point we loose track of who is assisting Ruby when she turns and scores a blinder by smashing it into the top corner.

6-0 at half time meant Harborough brought on a couple of extra players.  This didn’t deter Jess who managed to dribble the ball half way up the pitch to score.

Maisie had a stint in CM this week and proved that she can score from all angles.  Lexie makes another cross into Ruby who then gets her double hat trick.  Lexie was desperate to get in on the action, she took a great shot which their keeper didn’t know what to do with and ended up hitting the ball into her own net.  What was lovely to see were the smiles and giggles on the faces of the Harborough Town girls, they didn’t care about the score line and were just enjoying playing football.

A scramble in the box saw their keeper keep out a couple of rebounded balls, until Faith steps in to score with her left foot, first competitive goal for Faith at Rugby Borough.

Maisie dribbled through her opponents once more to get her second goal of the match, closely followed by Peyton being kept out by the woodwork.

Perseverance payed off for Lexie who got her goal in the dying minutes to end the game 13-0.

Player of the match most definitely went to Ruby for her absolute dominance as striker scoring 6 goals
