MATCH REPORT

U13 Girls v Asfordby

5th September 2023

We’ve waited all summer for the sun to arrive, but more importantly the start of a new season, today brought both. Our first fixture of the 23/24 season saw us travel away to play the newly promoted Asfordby Amateurs.

With some players still on holiday and a few new signings this brought a varied starting line up and a chance for some of the girls to try different positions.

In the first half the girls were playing slightly up hill, this didn’t seem to faze them and their precision passes were back on show. Within the first 5 minutes Mia intercepted the ball, drove towards goal and shot into the bottom corner. Ava in central defence had to turn on her turbo mode to make some brilliant tackles against the oppositions speedy striker.

Faith and Peyton who joined the defensive line were both distributing the ball well out to our wingers Anna and Dee, who then both frequently used their skill to beat their players and sending great crosses into the box.

The first set of substitutions were made and this had an immediate effect on the game, Maisie and Jess were linking up so well that they assisted each other’s goals within minutes. Shortly after Megan made a pass out to Maisie who curled the ball into the top corner. 4-0 at half time.

Straight into the second half and a few more positional changes were made. Within the first few minutes Maisie made a lovely run down the wing and fired a shot that went straight over the keeper into the top corner. Ruby and Isla took it in turns to play as striker and they both had plenty of shots that were unlucky to not get them on the scoresheet.

Ruby worked hard chasing down the ball and causing their defenders problems and Isla was getting into good positions and bringing her team mates into play. Somewhat against the run of play Asfordby managed to get a goal back.

Some good link up play between the Smiths in midfield saw Megan pass off the ball to Mia who fired beautifully over the keepers head into the top of the net.

Chloe put on a fine display in goal, talking to her defenders and has become really confident playing the ball out with her feet. Into the dying minutes Isla played a lovely ball forward to Megan who scored in the bottom corner.

Final score 7-1, a great start to the season. POTM was Maisie for a fantastic hat trick on her debut.
