MATCH REPORT

U12 Girls v Rugby Town

4th October 2022

Rugby Town 0 v 2 Rugby Borough

Local derby day…..

A first meeting of the season with our local rivals brought happy flashbacks of wild celebrations & open top bus parades after our previous encounter

Following on from the good form of late, the girls quickly settled into their stride.

Anna was showing her usual skill going up the wing and making some great crosses, whilst on the opposite wing Freya showed masses of determination and flair to get passed anyone in her way.

Ruby was applying constant pressure up front, which led to some great saves by Towns very good keeper.

The counter attacks from the opposition were being cleared by our steely defence.  Ava was sending the ball back up the pitch with her massive kicks, whilst Lexi made some long runs up the left, dribbling past many players.  Peyton continued to show her usual strength by making strong tackles and pushing forward whenever she could.

Midway through the first half Freya made a lovely cross into the box which was met by Megan, who made a long run to slide the ball into the net.

Lots of substitutions were then made to bring on fresh legs.  Amber used her impressive pace to chase down the ball and put pressure on the oppositions defence.  Isla constantly worked hard winning the ball back and making some long runs up the wing.

Into the second half the girls came out stronger, the passing greatly improved which created multiple chances.  Jess showed the leadership of Captain by being tenacious and winning the ball back at every opportunity.

At 1:0 things were still tense, Chloe showed great awareness in the box to make some fantastic saves, passing out to Mia who had lovely composure on the ball and was able to start numerous attacks, whilst Maia slotted into midfield with ease making plenty of interceptions to keep Town at bay.

Finally the girls were hitting top gear, on the front foot Anna beat her player before crossing the ball into a dangerous area where Freya coolly slotted it home.

Megan continued to control midfield, even battling on whilst injured.  Ese had some great touches on the ball, linking up well with her team mates, whilst at the other end of the pitch, Ava (who played the whole game) was dominating their forwards.

It was maybe not the free flowing football that the girls have delivered of late but derby games are often like this & the girls gave it everything and showed enough quality at the right times to take the 3 points.

Player of the match was Megan for an excellent midfield performance

A big thank you to Gaz Smith for running the line and doing a great job.
