MATCH REPORT
U12 Girls v Rugby Town
27th February 2023
- Date:26th February 2023
- League: League Cup
- Venue: Away
This weekends game saw us travelling the short distance to Butlin Road to play our local rivals Rugby Town in the League Cup.
From our heightened position on the hill the spectators were deciding whether to watch the match or do some train spotting, either way we needed binoculars.
The Rugby Borough girls looked fresh and ready to go, this showed when they started off immediately on the front foot putting pressure on Rugby Town.
After a few near misses Rugby Borough got the breakthrough when Ruby & Megan produced good link up play, which led to Megan slotting the ball into the bottom corner to make it 1-0.
Quite soon after Lexie put a good cross into the box which was stopped by a Rugby Town hand. Lexie stepped straight up to take the resulting penalty that she fired cooly past the goal keeper.
Rugby Town were playing as many long balls as possible, but our defence of Ava, Lexi, Mia and Peyton kept it tight at the back, Lexie using her speed, Ava her head, Mia her skills and Peyton her powerful kicks, meant they cleared everything that came their way.
Maia and Jess were dominating Central Midfield breaking up the play, using their speed and determination . Jess received the ball and had a great shot that looped over the keepers head into the back of the net
Isla showed just how skilful she is by clearing an opposition corner and beating three of their players to travel back up the wing into their half.
More great passing between Ruby and Megan saw Ruby, who had worked really hard all match, get her well deserved goal.
Ese came on as striker and made an impact, from a fine throw in from Peyton, Ese received the ball just into the oppositions half and made a beautiful run up the centre of the pitch to score a fantastic goal.
Just before half time Rugby Town managed to win a corner and after a scramble in the box they managed to get the ball into the net, much to Chloe’s dismay as she had her hand on the ball.
The girls were certainly feeling cheerful 5-1 up at half time. The second half slowed a little, Rugby Town had a few opportunities but these were dealt with swiftly by a composed Chloe in front of goal.
Anna and Freya worked hard on the wings throughout the game, frequently winning us corners. Anna crossed in a great corner right into the middle of the box which found Megan who was able to megs the keeper. Then Freya on the opposite corner delivered the ball centrally which Megan volleyed into the top of the net.
A wonderful whole team performance, with delightful passing from each and every girl, it really was amazing to watch.
A very well deserved 7-1 win sees us going into the quarter finals of the league cup.
Player of the match could have went to the whole team but Megan deservedly picked it up for a superb hat-trick and a great all round contribution
Thank you to Mick for running the line & to Jasmine the referee who put in a very assured performance herself.
