MATCH REPORT

U12 Girls v Oadby & Wigston

15th March 2023

On Sunday morning the girls turned in a superb performance in the Quarter Finals of the League Cup against Oadby & Wigston.

Carrying on their fine form of late the girls went on the offensive from the first whistle, creating some great chances, one of these was quickly rewarded when Lexie made one of her trademark runs up the wing to put a cross in to Anna who smashed the ball into the back of the net.  This was followed closely by some great link up play that saw Megan pass the ball out to Freya who struck the ball with precision to beat the keeper.

Rugby were dominating possession at this stage, Maia was winning the ball back in midfield and working well with Jess to pass the ball out wide to the wingers.  Ruby, who constantly had at least 3 defenders marking her, was working hard to keep the ball and bring her team mates into play, this led to Mia and Peyton both having some great efforts that just went wide of the post.

Our next 2 goals came from some fantastic corners taken by Isla, perfectly placed in the box for Megan to finish.  Ese played in various positions throughout the game showing her versatility and skill to cause the opposition problems.

Chloe remained alert in goal showing good composure when the ball came her way which wasn’t often due to our strong defence keeping line and using their individual talents and great teamwork to keep the ball travelling up the pitch.  Ava was using her head in more ways than one, reading the game well to organise her line and clearing the ball with her massive headers.

4-0 up at half time meant that the coaches could have a move around of positions in the second half.  Lexie won a free kick that went just over the bar and then Jess tried a Russo using her back heel which the keeper scrambled to save.  Their keeper took a goal kick which Ruby took control of to make a run straight at goal and score into the bottom corner.

An abundance of skill, speed and passing was on show from the team which made the game wonderful to watch.  Our next goal came when a great cross from Anna was turned home coolly by Freya.  This was then reciprocated when Freya made a pass to Anna who stuck the ball with great power and accuracy to beat the keeper once again.

A great team performance once again saw the girls emphatically march on to the Semi Finals.

Player of the match was Freya for excellent forward play

Thanks to Mick for running the line.
