MATCH REPORT

U12 Girls v Fc Aztec

18th April 2023

This weekends match saw us travelling down the A14 to play Rothwell Aztec’s.  The girls as a whole put in a great performance to see us win 5-3.

Playing downhill in the first half meant the girls could start attacking quickly, a few shots went narrowly wide before Mia, who was playing in defence, made a great run and took a long range shot from outside the box that nestled into the far corner out of the keepers reach.

Megan, Isla and Ruby were linking up well making some great passes to play the ball forward, a lovely pass from Ruby set Megan up in front of goal to score.  This was quickly followed up by Ruby intercepting the ball and striking perfectly to megs the keeper.

Our defence knew they would have a challenge this week to keep the Aztec’s fantastic striker out of the game, Jess, playing CDM followed the game plan, not allowing the Aztec striker time on the ball, then using her improved passing range to start attacks.

Freya and Maia came into the game and showed their great speed and attacking prowess, with their shots at goal narrowly going wide.  Just before half time the opposition managed to get a goal back when Chloe bravely came off her line for a 50/50 ball which ricocheted to their striker to score.

Into the second half with the opposition playing downhill and intent on scoring the next goal, our defence of Peyton, Ava, Lexie and Mia stood firm.  They worked their line brilliantly, clearing the ball, making great passes up the wings and generally driving the ball forward.  Megan helped out by tracking back and putting in a sliding tackle.

Maia continued to speed around the pitch sometimes appearing from nowhere to win the ball back and Freya kept attacking and was unlucky not to get a couple of goals.  Chloe was called upon and made some fine saves, it was lovely to hear her become more vocal, to instruct her defenders.

Jess continued her domination and made another great interception from an opposition goal kick, she passed the ball straight through the middle to Ruby who made a great run up hill to fire her next goal into the net.

The Aztecs got another goal back from a free kick.

Anna was showing how strong she has become on the wing, constantly beating her marker and putting quality crosses into the box, one of these found Ruby who completed her hat-trick.

Unfortunately a messy scramble in the box saw the opposition score one more before full time.

Player of the match was Jess for following the game plan to perfection, winning the ball, getting her head up and making some great passes.
