MATCH REPORT
U12 Girls v East Goscote
5th December 2022
- Date: 4th December 2022
- League: Leicester Girls league U12 Yellow
- Venue: Away
The girls arrived at a very muddy East Goscote pitch on what felt like the first winter game this season. Everyone was somewhat unsure about how the game would go knowing East Goscote had won every game they’ve played so far and with us only having 9.5 players.
The girls started off really well playing some brilliant attacking football which didn’t give the opposition time to settle. Freya and Mia, who both played out of their usual positions, were winning the ball back in midfield and linking up well with the wingers Ese and Anna who then travelled with the ball towards goal. Rugby took a well deserved lead which came from an excellent corner from Anna which Ruby dummied for Ese to shoot the ball high into the net.
Our amazing 3 defenders Ava, Peyton & Lexi, who all played the whole match were a real unit, their attributes all complimenting each other, from Lexie’s fantastic pace and attacking play, to Ava’s great heading of the ball and leadership, to Peyton’s work rate and great tackling.
Both teams were sharing turns to attack in what was already becoming an excellent game & East Goscote managed to level just before the second half with a strike that went over Chloe’s head.
Into the second half the girls didn’t seem to have tired. More attacks at goal by Ruby, Anna and Megan all unfortunately didn’t get past the oppositions very good keeper. Then along came Freya who shot beautifully with her left foot straight into the bottom corner to restore the lead for Rugby.
Megan was showing lovely composure on the ball in the CDM role to start attacks and Ruby was working very hard as the lone striker, tracking back, making interceptions and being a real team player.
As the game wore on the opposition put extra pressure on our defence in search of the equaliser which led to Chloe making some fine saves to keep us ahead. The Rugby girls were giving as good as they got though and were unlucky on several occasions not to extend the lead further.
A truly fantastic performance from all of the girls individually & collectively, faced with challenges this team keep on delivery the goods
Our Player of the match was Lexie, she defended really well & offered a great attacking threat with her trademark runs along the left wing.
A big thank you to Conor for running the line.
