MATCH REPORT

U12 Girls v Coalville

14th November 2022

It was a chilly Sunday morning down at Kilsby Lane this week.

The girls wore their poppies with pride and took part in a minutes silence to honour those that gave their lives for us to live in freedom.

The match started at a very fast pace with the ball travelling from one end of the pitch to the other and back again.  Coalville came with a very strong, very determined team, who managed to make a clean break straight through our defence and fired a goal straight into the bottom corner where it couldn’t be reached by Megan, who was making her debut in goal.  This however did seem to spur our girls on and quite quickly we saw Borough level things up with a lovely timed cross in from Freya to Anna who slotted it home.

The girls definitely had the upper hand during the rest of the half, with Lexie whipping past players as she played out from the back, Peyton controlled the centre of defence playing lots of long balls back up the pitch and Mia used her Tekkers to get around the opposition, this did unfortunately seem to infuriate one of their players who used some unfriendly words followed by a nasty tackle.  Mia and the rest of the team showed their class in the way they dealt with it and carried on with their heads held high.

Jess and Maia teamed up well in centre midfield, both girls have an abundance of energy to be everywhere on the pitch which was needed this week, Jess was unlucky not to take us into the lead when the crossbar just got in her way.

The second half continued in much the same way as the first half, with Borough having the majority of the ball.  Ruby showed her strength and versatility by tracking back, winning the ball and making some lovely forward passes.  Isla, Freya and Anna all worked hard getting up and down the wings and making passes into the box to create chances.

With a couple of players missing this week Ese showed that she can play in various positions, she used her skills to get around players and passed the ball off well.

Whilst, although a little bored in the second half, Megan did a good job in goal, running out to claim the ball and using her box to send the ball back into play quickly.

The girls then finally got that well deserved winning goal, Isla made a run up the wing, crossed it in for Ese to get a touch on it, this fell to Maia who passed a great ball out wide to Anna who made a fantastic 360 and fired the ball into the net.

It’s safe to say we all breathed a sigh of relief when the final whistle blew.  A tough match but one the girls can be proud of.

A massive thank you must go out to the referee  who did a great job during a tense match! Thank you again to Gaz for running the line.

Player of the match was Anna for 2 excellent goals
