MATCH REPORT

U12 Girls v Anstey Nomads

19th September 2022

U12’s storm to fantastic win

Anstey Nomads 3 v 8 Rugby Borough

Rugby made the now familiar trip to Anstey & the girls were determined to kick start their season after a difficult opening match. They did just that in some style.

After an impeccably observed minutes silence the team lined up in their usual formation with only a slight tweak in midfield & they took the game to Anstey right from the kick off.  It wasn’t long before Rugby took the lead after a great through ball from Jess found Ruby who drove forward and slotted it away past the keeper.

Rugby were creating lots of chances through good work by Freya & Amber on the wings and where rewarded when Ruby clinically put away the 2nd goal.  With a strong bench Rugby made several changes but the flow of the game remained the same with great attacking football on display whilst at the back Peyton and Ava where making sure any breakaways were quickly closed down.

Rugby stretched their lead shortly after with a brilliant through pass from Ese which found Anna who took it in her stride to smash the ball into the bottom corner.

As the half was approaching the end Anstey pulled one back as a long range shot took a wicked deflection off a Rugby defender and cruised into the net

Into the 2nd half and the girls pushed on determined to continue their attacking brand of football.  Megan playing slightly further forward was creating great chances for the forward players and it wasn’t long before Ruby got her 3rd & then 4th of the game before coming off for a well deserved rest.

A lot of changes followed however the pattern continued with Mia & Maia picking up the midfield responsibilities ensuring the team kept playing forward. Lyra slotted in at the back to keep Anstey at bay when they attacked.   A Rugby attack down the right led to goal number 6 with Anna getting the cross in and Maia being in the right position to poke it over the line.

To be fair to the opposition they decided to push more girls forward & had a great spell themselves where they scored 2 good goals and forced Chloe to make some smart saves.  This led to a tactical switch from Rugby to shore up the game which then gave the foothold to push forward again.

Rugby were getting some joy down the left hand side through great play from Lexie & Isla and goal number 7 was created in this area with a cross reaching Anna who finished well into the top of the net.  The team were not finished here & Ese calmly placed her shot to the side of the keeper for goal number 8 as the match drew to a conclusion.

This was a brilliant team performance,  excellent passing & finishing was the theme of the day and the supporters left thoroughly entertained

Player of the match was Anna for excellent play on the wing.
