MATCH REPORT

U11 Girls v Coalville Ravenettes

7th February 2022

The girls made the long trip away to Coalville,  leaving behind the torrential rain in Rugby & arriving to sunshine & high winds.

Rugby as per usual started on the front foot and soon created chances through excellent running from Amber putting pressure on the opposition defence and getting her shots away.

On the wings Ruby & Ava were causing all sorts of problems with their great dribbling and were unfortunate not to convert.  Rugby piled on the pressure & an excellent pass from Ruby put Megan through who made no mistake coolly slotting it home.

Peyton & Lyra were marshalling the defence,  continually intercepting long kicks to break up play & move the ball forward.   The attacking theme continued through the first half with Anna tormenting the Coalville defenders to whip in some brilliant crosses & Ese showing all her skills to break through the defence.

Emily was also joining in with the attacking threat and came close with a long range shot after a great run.   Sophia came on to shore up the defence and showed everyone how well she reads the game by being in the right position to win back the ball for the team.  It was a quiet first half for Chloe in goal however she did very well with her kicking in difficult conditions against the wind.

The only surprise at half time was the scoreline which didn’t reflect the dominance from the girls in the 1st half.

The 2nd half started like the first with the majority of the game played in the Coalville half and the same poor luck in front of goal continued initially with Anna seeing a great effort smash back off the bar and the keeper making various saves.   The team kept pushing forward though and were rewarded with a great run & finish from Ruby.

The girls  stretched further ahead shortly after another a cool finish from Ese.    Amber, Megan & Ava were winning the ball back well in the midfield positions that allowed the team the platform to push on & when the opposition did look to break they found resolute defenders in Peyton, Lyra & Sophia who were determined not to let them pass.

The game ended in some controversy when Coalville thought they had pulled one back however Chloe did well to get control of the ball from a Coalville attack before the opposition player kicked it out of her hands.  After some deliberation the correct decision was reached.

In summary another good performance to keep an excellent run of form going. The girls dominated most of the match and created lots of chances but will probably feel that more of them should have been converted.

Player of the match was Sophia for an excellent defensive display
