- Date: 6th June 2021
- League: Leicestershire U10 league cup
- Venue: Away
The girls turned in a superb performance in an engrossing cup match vs Haunchwood Hornets. Carrying on their fine form of late the team went on the offensive from the start creating some great chances and it wasn’t long before they got their rewards through a fine long range strike from Megan. Rugby were dominating possession at this stage with excellent dribbling by Amber helping to start very quick attacks that the opposition struggled to cope with. Ruby & Anna were breaking forward at every opportunity and showed excellent composure to finish their chances. At the back Lyra, Summer & Sophia alternated though the 1st half and all 3 of them showed good reading of the game and a real determination to stop any attacks that came through whilst in goal Peyton sporting her trendy cap was as reliable as ever dealing with anything that came to her & also using her strong kicking to good effect. Emily slotted into the wide midfield positions and was really determined to get involved helping out the team with strong tackling and forward passes.
Into the second half and the team and substitutions became more frequent as a few injuries were picked up due to the physical nature of the game however it didn’t really affect the flow of the game. Haunchwood pushed forward early in this half in order to get back into the game however they were met by brilliant determined tackling from Lyra & Sophia meanwhile Summer was using her kicking skills to turn defence into attack with some great long passes. Megan was now controlling the game from the middle of the park, continuously winning the ball back and setting the team off on attack with pinpoint passing. Up front the team were starting to create more chances as Haunchwood came forward and great breaks by Anna & Ruby saw Rugby stretch ahead. Amber and Emily pushed forward in support and both were unlucky not to score with chances of their own. Peyton was called into action on a few occasions and did brilliantly to save whatever came at her.
Another excellent showing from the girls, defensively solid for the whole game combined with lots of fast paced attacking play which makes this team a joy to watch . Player of the match was Megan for a brilliant midfield performance. We move into the Quarter finals.
