The U10’s has a cup quarter final match and came so close to progressing against Coalville Rookettes
The girls were confident going into the game on the back of some excellent performances but knew they would face a tough test if they were to progress to the next round. The opposition started the quicker of the two teams however some excellent goalkeeping from Peyton kept the score level.
Sharing the defensive duties Summer, Lyra & Sophia worked extremely hard to limit the opposition to only a few chances however were powerless to stop Coalville taking the lead.
The girls dug in and Anna, Ruby & Amber started to show some excellent attacking play to pin the opposition back and create chances to equalise.
Megan took great advantage of a quick throw in to pull Rugby level shortly before half time with a well-placed shot. Leah came back into the team after a couple of weeks out and showed great determination to chase down the ball and make tackles in a variety of positions.
Into the second half and the game was being played largely in the midfield area with the Rugby defence standing strong to limit Coalville to some long range shots and the forwards pushing on when they could to create several chances.
As the game was heading to penalties both teams pushed on for the winner with Rugby unlucky with a shot saved on the line. Coalville took their chance with only seconds remaining on the clock
It was heartbreak in the end for the girls who matched a really strong team all the way however they can be very proud of their performance.
Well done to Coalville & good luck in the next round.
Player of the match for a fantastic display between the sticks was Peyton.
