29th October 2025
Borough’s first-half dominance seals impressive home victory.
Rugby Borough Women produced a commanding first-half performance to claim a deserved 3–1 win over West Bromwich Albion at the Nationwide Windows Arena on Wednesday evening.
Lee Burch’s side made a bright start and almost took the lead inside the opening five minutes when Malika Apindia struck the post following a lively attacking move. Moments later, Lily Greenslade saw her effort cleared off the line as Borough continued to press for the opener.
After a brief break in play due to injuries, Borough quickly reasserted control and continued to pile on the pressure. Their persistence was rewarded when Nicky Potts met an inviting corner delivery, rising highest to head home and give the hosts a well-earned lead.
The home side continued to look dangerous from set pieces, and in first-half stoppage time, defender Eve Clarkson doubled their advantage with another headed goal from a well-delivered corner. Just minutes later, Rugby struck again- this time through Yasmin Mosby, who powered in Borough’s third header of the night to make it 3–0 at the break.
West Brom improved after the interval and managed to pull one back early in the second half, but Borough remained organised and resilient. Following a series of substitutions, the game became an open, end-to-end contest, with the hosts looking to seal the win and Albion pushing to reduce the deficit further.
In the end, Rugby’s dominant first-half display proved decisive, with the visitors’ goal serving only as a consolation. Borough now turn their attention to a trip to Hull City this weekend, aiming to extend their strong run of performances.
