Rugby Borough Women FC 2–2 Liverpool Feds

5th October 2025

Late heartbreak denies Borough all three points at the Nationwide Windows Arena.

Rugby Borough Women were denied victory at the death as a stoppage-time equaliser saw them draw 2–2 with Liverpool Feds in a fiercely contested encounter at the Nationwide Windows Arena.

Manager Lee Burch named a strong side as Borough looked to build on their recent momentum. The hosts started brightly, taking the game to Liverpool with intensity and purpose, immediately putting the visitors on the back foot.

Eve Clarkson came agonisingly close to opening the scoring inside the first five minutes, with her header from a well-delivered corner crashing against the woodwork. Captain Ebony Wiseman then combined with Yas Mosby, who rounded the goalkeeper, only for a Feds defender to clear the ball.

Despite Borough’s early dominance, the visitors struck first against the run of play with a long-range effort finding the back of the net to give Liverpool the lead. The flow of the first half was repeatedly disrupted by stoppages for injuries to visiting players, halting Borough’s rhythm.

As the break approached, the hosts pushed forward again, working the ball into good areas but unable to find the finishing touch. Borough came out flying after the restart, immediately on the front foot in search of an equaliser.

Mosby almost levelled the contest within minutes of the second half kicking off but was denied by the goalkeeper. However, their pressure finally paid off when Nicky Potts showed great composure to slot home and make it 1–1, continuing her fine form in front of goal.

Moments later, Borough completed the turnaround through skipper Ebony Wiseman, who produced a moment of quality to fire her side ahead. The captain controlled the ball with her back to goal before finishing superbly past the keeper.

As the game entered its final stages, Borough continued to create chances in search of a third goal. Sofia Mallon broke through one-on-one in the final minute of normal time but narrowly missed the target.

In the 94th minute, there was late heartbreak for Borough as Liverpool Feds struck a dramatic equaliser deep into stoppage time to snatch a draw at the death. Despite this, Wiseman was voted Player of the Match for her tireless display and outstanding goal.

The result keeps Rugby Borough Women third in the league, just five points off leaders Wolves Women. Attention now turns to cup action, with Burch’s side set to face Middlesbrough away in the National League Cup.
