Rugby Borough launches Female Talent Pathway to strengthen future development
13th April 2026
Rugby Borough Women have unveiled an exciting new initiative ahead of the 2026/27 season, with the launch of a Female Talent Pathway programme designed to further strengthen the club’s long-term player development structure.
The programme represents a natural evolution of the club’s existing Advanced Training Centre (ATC) model, creating a clear and structured pathway for young players to progress from grassroots football into the senior game.
Developed in partnership with Rugby Borough Women & Girls FC, the pathway aims to bridge the gap between grassroots and elite football, offering a high-performance environment while allowing players to continue representing their local teams.
The programme will initially feature Under-12s and Under-16s sides, both of whom will compete in the JPL Warriors league- widely recognised as one of the highest standards of girls’ football in the country.
Players within the pathway will train twice a week in an environment aligned with the club’s senior setup, with sessions designed to reflect first-team principles and expectations. Each player will also receive an Individual Development Plan (IDP), allowing coaches to track progress, identify areas for improvement, and support long-term growth.
In addition to on-pitch development, the programme will provide access to a range of support services, including physiotherapy and injury management, as well as goalkeeper-specific coaching to ensure position-focused progression across all areas of the pitch.
A key feature of the pathway is its direct connection to the first team, with coaching philosophies and performance standards all aligned throughout the club. Senior players will also contribute to sessions, offering valuable insight and experience to the next generation.
The pathway has already begun to demonstrate its value, with players progressing into senior football environments. Eva Buckley recently made her National League debut against Wolves, while Tate Bullen, who has progressed through the club’s youth system, has also stepped up to make her first-team appearance- clear examples of the opportunities available within the structure.
Alongside the new programme, the club’s ATC provision will continue to operate, with adjusted age groups designed to support recruitment and progression into the pathway at key stages.
Looking ahead, Rugby Borough have ambitious plans to expand the pathway further, with additional age groups planned to be introduced in future seasons. The long-term vision is to create a fully integrated development system, allowing players to progress organically through each stage of their journey within the club.
With a clear structure, strong support network, and proven pathway into senior football, the Female Talent Pathway represents another significant step forward in Rugby Borough Women’s commitment to sustainable growth and player development.
