MATCH REPORT

U10 Girls v Asfordby

The U10’s squad made the long trip to face Asfordby in what was the only their 2nd match together,  the first one being 5 weeks ago before Lockdown 2.0 hit us.  It was amazing to see the girls enjoying playing their football & even a freezing cold day and super muddy pitch couldn’t dampen their spirits.

The girls set up in a familiar style at the start of the match with Summer bravely volunteering to go in goal first.  We knew we would be in for a tough game as the opposition pushed forward in the early part of the game & it took some great defending from Lyra to keep the opposition out.  As the game progressed the team grew in confidence and the forwards started to come into the game.  Anna’s excellent dribbling on the right hand side really allowed the team to get up the park & drew admiring comments from the opposition coaches.  Amber worked extremely hard & made some great runs into the box and it was good to see she got the reward for it.

Asfordby continued to come forward however Peyton showed how well she is progressing with some really strong tackling in midfield to stop the opposition in their tracks whilst Leah was looking assured and showed smart reading of the game in defence.  Emily did well in various positions, even in goal where she displayed excellent kicking to start off some moves.

Even in the final part of the match the girls showed tremendous energy to put pressure on the opposition led by Summer who was still making some great box to box runs.

All of the girls had to play the full match which was hard going in tough conditions coming off a 5 week lay-off however they should be very proud of their performance against a more experienced team.

There were plenty of options for player of the match however this week it went to Anna for being brave in possession and looking to take on the opposition at every opportunity
