Making history: eight girls from Rugby Borough Women & Girls selected for new Rugby District U11s Team
22nd September 2025
We are incredibly proud to share that eight of our Rugby Borough Women & Girls players have been selected to represent Rugby District in the England Schools FA (ESFA) competition. A further three girls who play under the juniors section of the club have also made the team. A fantastic achievement for these young players and a historic moment for girls’ football in our area.
This season marks the return of district football to Rugby after a number of years without a boys’ or girls’ team. Even more excitingly, this is the very first time Rugby has ever had a girls’ district football team.
The new under-11s team is being led by coach Gaz, one of our very own from Rugby Borough Women & Girls, alongside Tony Hemmings, who is championing this incredible initiative to give talented young players the opportunity to compete at a higher level and showcase their skills.
Trials for the team were held at Rugby Borough FC, with a fantastic turnout of local players all eager to be part of this exciting new chapter for Rugby football.
We couldn’t be prouder of our eight players who’ve made the squad. Their selection is a testament to their hard work, dedication and love for the game. They’ll now go on to compete against other districts across the country, gaining invaluable experience and flying the flag for Rugby and for girls’ grassroots football.
This milestone is not just about individual achievement, it represents the growing strength of the girls’ game in Rugby and the exciting opportunities now being created for the next generation.
Well done to our players, Gaz, Tony and everyone involved in bringing district football back to Rugby. We can’t wait to cheer you on!
