In a thrilling encounter marking the opening match of the FA Women’s National League, Rugby Borough Women FC delivered an impressive performance to secure a comfortable 3-0 victory over London Bees Women FC. The clash between the two teams was highly anticipated, and the players did not disappoint, putting on a display of skill, determination, and teamwork that delighted the spectators in attendance. New signing Lily Greenslade earned herself Player of the Match after a dominant display!

First Half: The match kicked off with both teams eager to make a statement right from the whistle. Rugby Borough Women FC quickly established control over the midfield, dictating the pace of the game and showcasing their superior ball possession. Their cohesive passing and relentless pressure on the London Bees’ defense left their opponents struggling to find their rhythm.

The breakthrough came in the 24th minute when Rugby Borough’s forward, Lily Greenslade, brilliantly latched onto a perfectly weighted through-ball from Ebony Wiseman, leaving the London Bees’ defense caught off-guard. With a composed finish, Greenslade slotted the ball into the bottom corner, putting her team ahead 1-0.

Just 3 minutes later Angelina Nixon rose highest in the box from an excellent corner and nestled it into the bottom corner. The celebration didn’t disappoint either as Nixon performed a front flip!

London Bees Women FC attempted to respond, intensifying their attacks and pushing forward. However, the solid defensive line of Rugby Borough held firm, snuffing out any potential threats and protecting their lead. As the first half progressed, Rugby Borough continued to apply pressure and after a smart throw in from Alanah Mann, Ebony Wiseman spun her defender to whip in a cross which was met by new number 9 Lily Greenslade! We go into half time at 3-0.

Second Half: London Bees made a substitution at half time bringing off Salpadoru for O’Leary. The second half saw London Bees Women FC come out with renewed determination to stage a comeback. They managed to mount a few promising attacks, testing the opposing goalkeeper with well-placed shots and crosses.

However, Rugby Borough Women FC’s defensive resilience and organised play prevented any significant breakthroughs.

In the 77th minute, Rugby Borough Women FC brought on Winters for Nixon followed by Wiseman for Brooks in the 85th minute.

As the clock ticked down, the game evened out by time wasn’t on London Bee’s side, the game ended as we finished the first half, 3-0 Borough!

This convincing victory sets a strong tone for Rugby Borough Women FC’s campaign in the FA Women’s National League, instilling confidence and excitement among players and fans alike.
