Under 9’s storm to victory

20th August 2020

The Rugby Borough Women & Girls Football Festival got off to a brilliant start on Saturday morning with our very own Under 9’s team winning the tournament for their age group.

The tournament was the first chance the girls had been able to play matches since the season ended because of Covid-19 and they were in their element being back on the pitch together.

The team finished top of the table going in to the semi finals with a number of the girls scoring goals, not to mention some cracking saves from our keeper.

The semi finals saw some great action across both matches with one of the matches going down to penalties – the spectators were more nervous watching the penalties than any of the girls taking them!

Thurlaston Girls FC joined Rugby Borough in the final for a cracking end to the tournament. It was a tough match for both teams but they all thoroughly enjoyed themselves as did the crowd!

The girls were overjoyed to be crowned the winners of the tournament. Having missed out on competing in their cup final back in March because of Covid-19 winning meant all the more to the girls and its set them up for the new season ahead.

The trophy is currently working its way around the team on a timeshare basis before it is proudly placed in the trophy cabinet in the clubhouse!

Well done girls!

Thanks to all the teams who took part in the tournament and to our sponsor RB Coaching Girls.
