Leopards take on Blaby in their first game of the season
9th September 2023
It’s the first day of the new season and the sun is finally shining for us on a match day! The Leopards arrived at Blaby excited for their first game of the new season.
The Leopards are under 9s but have moved up to play in the under 10s, 7-aside league for an extra challenge this season.
Four of our players made their Rugby Borough league debuts today; Erin, Peggy, Lily and Lexi.
The team started very brightly creating some good chances down both wings from Lily and Romillie. It wasn’t long before a good number of passes between Romillie and Lexi created a great opportunity for a shot on goal.
Amber started in midfield, sticking very well to her position, making defensive tackles before moving forward and creating forward passes. It was one of these tackles that started the Leopards off again. A pass to Romillie who ran with it ended up finding Lily in the box.
The defensive trio of Esme, Peggy and Ivy stood strong throughout the game. Esme’s awareness and positioning were a massive contribution to the teams’ performance. Ivy’s speed and determination to win the ball gave her a chance to make tackles and play good forward passes.
Quinn had a couple of saves to make during the game and battled to play on despite feeling ill. At half time Quinn had to drop to the bench and cheer the girls on for the second half. Ivy stepped up to take her place in goal and put in a solid shift.
Lexi’s strength and power allowed her to take more shots from just outside the box, hitting the low and hard.
Erin had a good game switching between the left and right wing, having a number of good shots. She also did a great job of tracking back into a defensive role when needed.
Peggy was all over the pitch, full of determination driving up from the back. She was up against a much taller defender but held her own and was really strong.
We would like to thank Blaby and Whetstone for their hospitality. Thank you to the referee as well, without you games would not be possible.
All good morning and off for ice creams
