Leamington Brakes U8 Gold vs RBJFC U8 Eagles

17th April 2021

A fixture that had been long awaited from a coaches respective, Rugby Borough’s U8 Eagles faced Leamington Brakes away on Saturday.

Leamington Brakes vs RBJFC U8 Eagles

The Eagles have been working extremely hard since lockdown restrictions were lifted and have been working on different aspects of their games. Everything clicked into place during this match, from the very first whistle.

For the first 10 minutes of the game the Eagles were camped in the Leamington half, just a little bit more composure and the boys would have had an extremely bright start and should have been a few goals up inside the first 10 minutes.

However, a lapse of concentration saw Leamington catch the Eagles sleeping at the back and caught us on a quick counter attack with their striker slotting the ball away….(isn’t football frustrating!)

The Eagles didn’t let their heads drop and carried on working tirelessly for one another, again creating a few more chances that were either blocked or missed the goal by a few inches.

Half-time score: Leamington 1 – 0 Rugby Eagles

The second half began as brightly as the first half for the Eagles, with Robert and Amalfi dominating the midfield which led to a throw in that Robert and Aahan took quickly, resulting in Leamington Brakes players clearing the ball towards their own goal, their goalkeeper missing it completely and the ball nestling in the net making the score 1 – 1.

Minutes later after great work from Robert who was all over the pitch, saw him pick the ball up,  slide past two defenders and slot the ball in the back of the net putting the Eagles in the lead with 2-1. Shortly followed by Robert scoring for a second time, making it 3-1!

In the last few games, Aahan has been unlucky to not slot away a few goals, having quite a few near misses. After a quick chat with Coach Shane at half time explaining to Aahan to use his body more, he then picked the ball up, took it around a defender with ease which got him 1 vs 1 with the keeper and this time,  cool, calm and collected Aahan slotted the ball into the bottom corner! The Eagles were then 4-1 up.

In the last 5 minutes of the game, it was time for Coach Ryan’s final substitute, Kian, to make his league debut, having only played his first competitive match mid-week in a friendly.

Kian only went on to bag himself a goal! A good quick throw in from Robert picked out Kian in the box unmarked, who slotted it first time into the bottom corner, with a super strike!

Full-time result:

Leamington Brakes U8 Gold 1 – 5 Rugby Borough U8 Eagles

Well done to player of the match Aahan – fully deserved after the last few games.

Coach Ryan is absolutely over the moon with the performances that the boys have produced over the last few weeks!
