Festival glory: Tigers, Sabres, and Lionesses shine at LWGFL end-of-season festival

3rd May 2026

What a way to end the season.

Three of our teams took top honours at the LWGFL end-of-season festival, with the U9 Tigers, U10 Sabres, and U11 Lionesses all winning their respective age groups. And to make it even sweeter, the U11 Leopards finished as runners-up in the U11 category, meaning the final was an all-Rugby Borough affair.

The festival format is exactly what grassroots football should look like at this stage of the season: an emphasis on enjoyment, development, and giving players the chance to celebrate everything they have worked for since September. It’s always great for the girls to get a result for their hard work, but smiles matter more, and from all accounts there were plenty of those on the day.

For the U9 Tigers and U10 Sabres, the festival capped off a year of real growth. These are the age groups where habits are formed, confidence is built, and a love of the game takes hold.

The U11 category produced a special moment in its own right with both finalists wearing Rugby Borough colours. The Lionesses took the win, but the Leopards can be equally proud of a tremendous season and a runners-up finish they thoroughly deserved.

Huge credit to all the coaches, volunteers, and parents who have given their time and energy throughout the year. Days like this are the reward for all of that. More importantly, they are a reminder of why we do it.
Congratulations to every player who took part. Enjoy your summer, and we will see you on the other side.
