U11 Girls v Blaby & Whetstone

4th April 2022

The girls welcomed back most of the missing players from last week & bounced back to form in great style in this shield match.

The team started in blistering fashion carving open the opposition defence at will and soon got their reward through an excellent run and shot from Ruby which was deflected in.

Megan got in on the act shortly afterwards with our first headed effort of the season.   Rugby were dominating and the solid defence of Peyton & Sophia meant that the attacking players could really express themselves in forward areas.   Anna & Ese were showing their dribbling skills to push the team on and when they came off then Ava & Freya continued in exactly the same way.

Megan and Ruby added again to the scoreline with great runs & finishes whilst Jess showed her battling qualities and drive in midfield to win the ball back & get some good shots away.  Lyra came on to shore up the defence who all did a great job in limiting Chloe’s involvement but her time was still to come.

In the second half the girls played some amazing football, however before that it was Chloe’s turn to shine with a brilliant penalty save turning a strong effort over the bar.

Blaby & Whetstone pushed forward more in the 2nd half but this left space for Rugby to show how well they can play.   The girls added to their tally through a variation on the short corner routine with Megan creating the space to pass the ball into the back of net.   The team were now creating numerous chances, Ese and Freya were showing great footwork to beat their opponents and start dangerous attacks.

A candidate for goal of the season followed with Ruby receiving the ball with back to goal on the halfway line then playing a great pass to Anna who dribbled away from defenders and hit a perfect cross in between the goalie and defender for Ruby who had ran half the pitch to tap it home.

Ruby then rounded off the day with a fine long range strike.   Jess played in a few positions and showed her great running power and skill to get away from the opposition whilst Peyton, Sophia and Ava defended very well to limit any opposition chances

It was great to see the girls brush off last week’s disappointment and deliver a brilliant display of attacking football.

Player of the match was Ruby for a top all round performance
