Play for life
At Rugby Borough Football Club, a clear pathway is provided to talented young players, both male and female. Many of whom have gone on to play professional football. We have boys playing at professional academies now who started their football journey in the famous orange shirt proving our player pathway works.
We have girls, who also started in the orange shirt now on their own football journey playing at Aston Villa Girls RTC, Birmingham City Girls RTC and Northampton Town’s Elite Girls PDC with many representing Warwickshire County level too.
- Coaching begins from age 4 up with ball at feet for 2 years. This is the beginning of any youngsters player pathway and is our foundation and development phase. Playing development friendlies and tournament football with a solid emphasis on fun, friendship and enjoyment from the game where the basics are taught. The children are taught to use all parts of the foot to move, protect and release the ball and more importantly they are given the freedom to explore.
- Under 7s can join a team and play in one of the many development leagues on offer. The development phase continues with the foundation phase but adds in the youth development phase too, further nurturing players to prepare for competitive football. We develop players who are confident and comfortable on the ball, expose them to all situations and in all areas on the pitch with refinement to specific positions, ball mastery and technique.
- Competitive football begins at age 11, although still supported by our foundation and development phases, our players are tested in challenging sessions and asked to put their learning in to 7v7, 9v9 and 11v11 games. These age groups learn more about game understanding, ball mastery, in possession, out of possession. Players will start to excel in one or two positions and this will be supported by our coaches who will enable the player to develop further.
Options are available for talented players identified as having elite potential, resulting in progression on the player pathway to an FA Regional Talent Club or Academy. Therefore, having the opportunity to access higher levels of coaching and support.
