MATCH REPORT

U11 Girls v St Andrews

21st February 2022

In what was a welcome break in a Stormy weekend the girls had another early kick off this time at home to St Andrews.   The girls were kicking against the wind in the first half and were met by a determined St Andrews team.  A change at the back saw Ava partner Peyton and both remained solid throughout the half shutting down any opportunities for the opposition.

In the middle of the park Freya and Megan were working well to win the ball & set the team going forward.   Ruby was leading the line well supported by some strong dribbling from Anna on the wing.   Rugby created a few chances however shots were going wide, high or being well saved by the Keeper.

Ese came on to add some pace to the attack whilst Lyra and Sophia slotted easily into the backline & continued to keep St Andrews out through their strong tackling.  St Andrews were dangerous and it took a brilliant save from Chloe following a corner to keep things level.

Rugby took control in the 2nd half & produced the dominating performance that we have become accustomed to with the majority of the game played in the opponents half.   The midfield pushed high which meant that Ava & Freya were able to put pressure on the opposition & win the ball back for the team.  Anna, Ruby & Ese were alternating forward positions and creating chances for the team whilst at the back Peyton was displaying her usual composed style by winning her tackles and picking out forward passes.

The breakthrough came midway through the half when high pressing from Ese paid off and she was able to slot it past the keeper.   Shortly afterwards Ruby got her rewards for her fantastic work-rate & then to round it off Megan showed her great ability to go through the defence and finish off an excellent move.  St Andrews were restricted to break aways in the 2nd half but excellent defending from Lyra & Sophia prevented these becoming goal scoring chances.

Chloe was more of a spectator in the 2nd half thanks to the whole team defending all areas of the pitch but as usual she remained vigilant for anything that came her way

Tricky conditions for the girls and a good opponent but they did very well to overcome this & they really showed their class in the 2nd half.

Player of the match was Ava for an excellent performance in multiple positions
