Serving our communities during lockdown
13th June 2020
As the country begins to get back to normal, here at Rugby Borough Football Club, we’re proud to look back on the past few months as a time during which we were able to serve and support our local community in lots of practical ways.
Here at Rugby Borough Football Club, we believe in giving our wonderful members and local community the best experience and support possible, through both good and challenging times. During the Covid19 pandemic, we rose to the many opportunities to serve our members and community in various ways; working together to find ways to help and support people. Here’s some of what we’ve been up to.
follow the orange brick road
Initially, in March, we set a challenge for our players and coaches to “follow the orange brick road” by participating in a football skills video chain. This initiative received a fantastic response, with over x100 players, siblings, parents and coaches from different age groups taking part. The challenge involved passing the ball to each other via pre-recorded videos which we then cut together with a special message at the end, showing our unity as a club and our support for our wonderful NHS.
Over the following days and weeks as the country got used to “lockdown”, we setup our RBFC Coronavirus Support Hub thanks to the generous funding assistance from key companies in our local community. This Hub allowed us to deliver support to the vulnerable in Rugby. A special thank you to all those involved.
Another way in which we were able to serve our community during this time was through the RBFC Mens and Womens teams, who delivered Easter Eggs to the vulnerable and less fortunate at both Rugby St Cross Hospital and Rugby Food Bank respectively.
With the ball well and truly rolling, our dedicated volunteers went on to deliver fish and chips to x32 vulnerable people with dementia; a gift that got a great reception by all – especially as it came with additional cream tea from RBFC to mark and celebrate VE Day 75.
Here at RBFC, we only do positive. This ethos can be seen in a special page called Kick It Clear Coaching. Through this dedicated page, our players, siblings and parents have been able to access positive and practical resources to help them stay occupied and inspired during lockdown. This includes everything from word games to colouring pages and football skills videos. Complementary to this, we have also had weekly competitions which received a great response and engaged players and parents; many of whom won fantastic prizes in the process.
Our latest initiative was to reward (via nomination) 30 grandparents of our players an afternoon tea, hand-delivered to their home address. This again has been a highlight in what has been a challenging time, especially for those who have had to isolate or distance themselves from loved ones. The feedback was great and showed once more, how our ethos of positivity continues to resonate to those around us.
As a club, we are proud to be rooted in our local community and are proud to have been able to turn our resources to serving the community; reaching the most vulnerable and also keeping our players, parents and members engaged, fit and healthy during these challenging times. We continue to do positive and will continue to work with the local community to serve and add value both now and in the future.
