Lee Burch: Rugby Borough Women FC v Aston Villa u21s in the Challenge Cup semi-final

1st March 2026

Welcome everyone to Rugby Borough FC for today’s Birmingham County Cup game against Aston Villa U21. I would also like to welcome the Aston Villa players and fans.

Last Sunday we bounced back with a controlled result against a determined Halifax side. Although only a 1-0 win, our domination of the ball and the number of efforts at goal should have produced more. Once we hit this stride, we will be a real force. It was also great to get some minutes into players as well as some returning to the side after injuries.

Today’s semi-final is against a very talented group of young players at Aston Villa and a rehash of the semi-final from two years ago, when we won the county cup. I’m expecting a good game of football with both sides looking to play. We are looking to reach a third consecutive cup final and finish the season on a high by getting our name back onto the trophy.

Squad-wise, we unfortunately have injuries to Bethan Roberts and Eve Clarkson. While also today Ebony Wiseman is shaking off a small knock, and Poppy Soper is on international duty with Wales.

As always, I hope you all enjoy the game. Up the Boro.
