2nd March 2026

Rugby Borough Women FC 6–0 Aston Villa U21s

Rugby Borough Women booked their place in the FA Challenge Cup Final after delivering an emphatic 6–0 victory over Aston Villa U21 at Kilsby Lane.

Lee Burch’s side delivered a ruthless performance on home soil, overwhelming their opponents with a fast start and maintaining control throughout to underline their cup pedigree once again.

Borough were celebrating inside the opening minute after a quick-fire start. Sofia Mallon beat her defender with a burst of pace before showing composure in front of goal to calmly slot home and hand the hosts an early lead in a fixture of huge significance.

The game was played at a sharp tempo, with both sides competing well and maintaining possession, but it was Borough who carried the greater threat. Mallon nearly doubled her tally soon after, only to see her effort drift just over the crossbar.

The hosts did not have to wait long to extend their advantage. Yas Mosby made it 2–0 with a long-range free-kick that caught the Villa goalkeeper off guard, looping perfectly over her and into the net.

Minutes later, Borough were three goals to the good. A wayward back pass from a Villa defender evaded her goalkeeper and rolled into the net, compounding a difficult spell for the visitors.

Burch’s side was firmly in control, dictating the tempo and continuing to press forward. Lily Greenslade tested the Villa keeper with a well-struck effort, but on this occasion the goalkeeper produced a strong save to keep the score at 3–0.

Just before the hour mark, Borough added a fourth. Another defensive error led to a goalmouth scramble, with Mallon seeing two efforts denied before Greenslade reacted quickest to tap home from close range.

After the interval, the pattern of the contest remained largely the same, with Rugby seeking to extend their advantage further. Burch made a series of changes to freshen things up across both attack and defence, ensuring energy levels remained high.

Substitute Mai Moncaster came close on two occasions, first forcing the goalkeeper into action before later seeing an effort drift narrowly wide.
With a quarter of an hour remaining, Borough struck again to make it five. Greenslade rose highest inside the box to head home emphatically and cap an impressive individual performance.

She nearly completed her hat-trick moments later, only to see her effort roll inches wide of the bottom corner.

The scoring was rounded off in the closing stages when Malika Apindia made it 6–0. Initially finding the ball slightly behind her, she adjusted quickly to get a shot away, and with the aid of the woodwork, the effort found the back of the net to complete a comprehensive victory.

At the full-time whistle, Borough celebrated another milestone, a third successive Final appearance. After the match, supporters voted Lily Greenslade as Player of the Match following her decisive contribution in front of goal.

Attention now turns back to league action, as Burch’s side travels to face league leaders Burnley in another crucial fixture.
