Rugby Borough Women and Girls FC hosted The Leicester City and County Girls Football League U8s finals day at Kilsby Lane on Sunday and of course…It started to rain and it didn’t stop all day, but the girls didn’t let this dampen their spirits as their were so many smiles on show, eager to get out on the 3g and play!
The U8s cup which was due to take place in the morning was postponed due to one of the visiting teams members starting self isolation so the team took the action of not attending which we greatly appreciated. As soon as we know when it’s rescheduled for, we will let everyone know.
The other 3 teams including our own fabulous Rugby Borough Girls U8s played a round robin format of friendly matches on the 3g. The girls got some important game time in and thoroughly enjoyed the chance of playing some football for a change, lots of great skills on show from all of the girls and teams involved.
The Plate Final was played in the afternoon in challenging conditions with the rain still coming down. Pitch conditions were perfect though having switched to the 3g from the grass which was now showing signs of standing water.
There was much anticipation as the teams began to arrive and you could see and hear the excitement building from the girls. Teams from Coalville, Ambleside, Thurlaston and Blaby and Whetstone were in attendance to play for the Leicester City and County Girls League Plate.
After some excellent football in the semi-finals from all of the teams involved, it was Ambleside Juniors U8s and Blaby and Whetstone U8s who progressed through to the final. The fantastic football continued into the final with both teams playing really well, with some fabulous skills on display from all of the girls but it was Ambleside Juniors U8s who were victorious.
The girls were an absolute credit to their respective clubs and parents, all soaked to the skin but smiles all afternoon, it was a real pleasure to host you all at Kilsby Lane and look forward to seeing you all back there very soon.
