MATCH REPORT

U9’s make it to the final in Daventry 6’s tournament

5th July 2021

Eight very excited girls were ready for action in Super 6’s tournament on Saturday!

Facing a number of opponents from their league and some new teams the girls were full of energy and enthusiasm for the tournament and couldn’t wait to get stuck into each match they played.

Each of the girls played each game with confidence and tenacity.

Sophie and Elisia took it in turns to be in goal and kept clean sheets all the way to the final, with both goals scored by Dunton in the final being unstoppable out of the box shots.

Sophie and Elisia were supported in goal by Brooke and Isabel or Isla in defence.

Brooke was brilliant at intercepting the opposition players and pushed up field with a counter attack feeding the ball to Mia and Skyla. She confidently cleared the ball away a number of times to break the flow of play and give the team chance to reset.

Isabel got stuck in with some excellently timed tackles whilst defending and stood strong against a number of dominant attacks from our opposition. She boldly pushed up front when the opportunity arose and scored a cracking long range goal through the defenders.

Skyla played in centre midfield and worked brilliantly on the attack as well as supporting our defence. Both of her goals were box to box efforts and she didn’t let any opportunity go past without an attempt at goal.

Mia gave our oppositions defence a lot to contend with and if she didn’t go for goal herself she was looking to pass to her team mates up front to set them up for a goal. She confidently took the penalty during the final and smashed it into the back of the net to put the team back in the game.

Isla was consistently getting herself in great positions in the box to receive passes or to take a shot. She created space for herself when needed and stood firm against strong defenders and goal keepers.

Lara played brilliantly up front and got herself into poaching or tap-in positions to make sure rebounds from the goal or keepers were capitalised on. She did exactly that when an attempt from Isabel was saved and landed at Lara’s feet.

When Sophie wasn’t in goal she was on hand in midfield to play both defensively and to push forward to go for goal or feed to her team mates.

Elisia played brilliantly in goal and out on the field, again getting stuck into challenges and battling for possession to put pressure on our opponents defence.

The girls were absolutely brilliant all tournament and put their all into every match. They were unlucky not to come away with the tournament win but they should be super proud of themselves for not conceding until the final and for equalising so the final went to extra time.

Well done girls! Bring on the Rugby Borough tournament in a couple of weeks!
