Rugby Borough U9 Girls headed over to Ambleside Juniors for their first league match of the season. 

Having played Ambleside Juniors in a pre-season friendly match, the girls were clued up on who to look out for on the pitch. 

The girls started confidently and got some brilliant passing in and also tackles in the first few minutes. It was great to see some of the turns and new skills that we have been working on in training being used out on the pitch by the girls, creating lots of space for themselves and to get in to some really good positions to help their team mates out. 

Safe hands Sophie continued to show her developing goalkeeping skills as well as enjoying a spell out on the field driving the ball forward. Lara ran the line taking on the Ambleside girls time and time again. Willow took on the goalkeeping responsibility for two quarters showing some cat like moves to make some excellent saves. Elizabeth worked hard to win the ball and wasn’t afraid to get stuck in with a tackle now and again. 

The girls kept up the pressure on Ambleside in the first half and saw their hard work pay off in the second half. The girls held possession well forcing corners and throws near to the goal and created lots of opportunities for the team. 

Isla won player of the match for her hard work and determination throughout the match. She showed brilliant character tackling confidently and never giving up! Fantastic! Well done Isla!

Fabulous to see the new team playing well together and working hard for each other. Great positivity and lots of fun.

On to the first home game of the season next week.
