MATCH REPORT

U15 Girls v Harborough

19th October 2020

With a break between league games the U15s had a friendly away at Harborough. Having played out a draw a few weeks ago the girls were keen to get back on the pitch and show what they could do.

After a great start from Rugby, who attacked right from the whistle, it took Estere just 13 minutes to open the scoring with a trademark surging run and sharp finish. 4 minutes later she was on the scoreboard again following a scramble in the box putting Rugby in control early on. The girls dominated midfield with Amy V and Sophia causing difficulties for the Harborough defence before Holly picked up a loose ball on the edge of the area and slotted it home for Rugby’s third. The defence of Grace, Amy H and Thea (Player of the Match) kept the Harborough attack quiet throughout, working well with Amy T in goal, who launched several attacks from the back.

The second half started with Harborough getting a goal back with a great header from a corner, but before they could get on the scoreboard again Belle netted two goals in quick succession following some excellent runs down the wing. After conceding a soft penalty, Rugby got straight back to it with Maddie and Freya continuing to pull the strings in midfield with great interplay. It was then Imogen’s turn to deservedly get on the scoresheet, with a quick double after some great crosses first from Amy V and then from Belle. The defence remained strong throughout backed up by Amy T who pulled off some great saves to secure the win for Rugby. With everyone putting in a great performance this team are really starting to come together and show how good they can be.

Final Score: 3 – 7
