U12 Girls kick off their new season campaign

21st September 2020

Leicestershire Women’s and Girls U12 Football League Blue Division

20th September 2020

Rugby Borough U12 Girls first ever league game of a brand new season at Kilsby Lane. The girls faced Birstall United Junior U12 Girls on the grass pitches on a beautiful sunny Sunday morning.

Our new U12s had been eagerly anticipating the start of the new season having never played competitive football together as a team before. The team had been training for a number of weeks through the Summer period with a small number of girls initially as more girls joined through the weeks and the numbers swelled significantly. The team have been working really hard in training to be prepared for the start of the season and were really looking forward to this game.

It was an amazing first game for our Rugby Borough U12 Girls team. In the first half Rugby’s defence and attack kept the ball well and were always pushing forward on the attack trying to get the ball forward, with Evie, Rosa, Emmie, Beth and Tumi all taking shots at goal.

A controversial moment with a goal for Evie but sadly the referee was just too far away to judge whether the ball had actually crossed over the line (which it did) and we had no VAR available unfortunately, so it wasn’t given but the attempt left the girls in no doubt that they could go on pushing to score another in the game, which they tried with all their might. It was amazing that we got to half time 0-0.

The girls determination didn’t waiver in the second half, despite some very tired legs, the girls set off in much the same way trying to get a goal, both teams were trying hard to get forward and two great saves from our keeper Harriet followed, but she was left doing very little else as our defenders Ellie, Connie and Katie with help from Tumi running back from attack, kept the ball out and helped to keep it moving, beginning most of our attacks.

With 10 minutes to go, Olivia and Emmie surged forward playing the ball nicely between them and eventually Rosa slid the ball across the line for the winning goal. A very well deserved one nil win for our fabulous U12s

Girl of the Game : Rosa
