MATCH REPORT

U11 Girls v Rugby Town Tigers

18th October 2021

The girls welcomed their close neighbours Rugby Town Tigers to Kilsby lane for a Friendly match in the autumn drizzle.  The team started off on the front foot with Megan driving the team forward at every opportunity.  Rugby Borough created several good chances through good forward play by Ruby, Ava & Anna however some good goalkeeping kept them out.

The defence of Sophia and Peyton stayed alert to thwart the opposition breaks.  As the half wore on the girls had their breakthroughs with some good finishes from Megan.

With a large squad substitutions were plentiful,  Amber came on to stretch the Tigers defence further & Emily led the line well and was unlucky not to convert one the chances.   Lyra worked as hard as ever in defence to ensure Chloe didn’t have too much to do however what she did have to do she did it well.   Grace playing her first ever match slotted in well in midfield and was keen to receive and play the ball.

At half time the girls were encouraged to pass the ball more going forward and work on converting more chances.   This paid off immediately as the girls were rewarded for their efforts through good strikes by Ruby, Amber & Anna.

As the half wore on the girls were playing some brilliant attacking football and creating chances at will.  Megan showed her shooting power by curling an effort to the top corner.  Ava tried out a different position in defence and was strong in the tackle supported by Lyra & Sophia to keep the opposition chances to a minimum.

Chloe was having a quiet time of it but showed good handling when called upon.  Peyton moved into midfield and showed her strength and skill to break through and have an excellent effort on goal.   Emily & Grace worked well when they came on to put pressure on and regain the ball for the team.  To their credit Rugby Town kept trying and they got their reward midway through the 2nd half.

The most pleasing part of the performance was to see the teamwork and communication in the 2nd half which enabled some brilliant combination play all over the pitch.

Player of the match this week is Amber for great forward play.
