MATCH REPORT

U11 Girls v Rugby Town

1st March 2022

Rugby Borough welcomed their close neighbours Rugby Town for a great morning of football between two evenly matched teams.

Boro started off the game on the front foot and were soon creating chances through good running by Anna & Ruby.   Rugby Town were threatening on the break but solid work from Peyton & Sophia were keeping them at bay whilst Megan was keeping things moving forward in the middle of the park.

Unfortunately Chloe was ill but gave it a good go in goal until she came off and Ava bravely took the chance to go in goal.

Boro got the reward their play deserved through a fine long range strike from Ruby.  In the midfield area Freya was showing her tackling & passing skills to move the team forward whilst Lyra remained resolute at the back helping to keep Rugby Town out.  Ese played across the front line and used her pace well to drive forward.

The majority of the 1st half was controlled by Boro but as the half wore on Rugby Town came more into it and converted themselves from a good long range strike.

Into the second half and it was Rugby Town that started the brighter of the two teams & Ava was called upon a couple of times to make excellent saves.  The following period was pretty even with both defences on top although it was Rugby Town who stretched ahead following a goalmouth scramble.

The Boro girls picked themselves up though and went into full attacking mode for the last period, pinning the opposition back and winning a succession of corners however despite the amazing effort the girls were unable to find a way to goal.

It was a very competitive match between two good local teams which could have went either way.  It was great to see the spirit from the girls in the way they fought back towards the end.

Boro have been on an excellent run recently & I’m sure they will use this experience to push on even further.

Player of the match was Peyton for an outstanding defensive performance
