MATCH REPORT

U11 Girls v Market Bosworth

28th March 2022

Rugby Borough faced Market Bosworth in a cup match at Kilsby Lane.  Unfortunately Covid and other reasons meant that 4 of the girls were unavailable and it would require a great effort from the remaining girls to progress.

The first half of the match was relatively even although Ava did go close with a long range effort & then a great corner by Ruby flashed along the goalmouth with no takers.

Defences were generally on top though with Peyton, Lyra & Sophia managing to keep any opposition chances to a minimum.  Chloe showed her excellent handling to grab a long ball out of the air as Market Bosworth were threatening. Emily came on and showed some neat touches however the half ended goal-less.

At half time the girls were encouraged to remain calm in possession and do the things that have served them so well this season.   Unfortunately just after the re-start Market Bosworth got the breakthrough with a well taken strike.

Rugby then moved to a more attacking shape with relentless pressure in search of a goal.   Freya and Jess were attacking at will and the last 15 mins seen more shots from the girls that we see in most full games however a combination of the woodwork & good goalkeeping ensured it was Market Bosworth who progressed to the next round.

It was excellent to see the way the girls kept pushing to the end and on another day a few of those shots would have went in but it wasn’t to be.  Congratulations & good luck to Market Bosworth in the next round.

Player of the match was Jess for her excellent drive & determination in midfield
