MATCH REPORT

U11 Girls v Leicester City

11th April 2022

The girls faced Leicester City in the shield quarter final & delivered a great performance to go through to the next round.   Rugby set up in their usual formation & from the start played some excellent passing football through midfield with good combinations between Amber, Megan & Ruby creating changes from the left hand side.  It wasn’t long before they got their rewards through a fine strike by Megan.

The remainder of the first half saw a similar pattern.  Ava & Peyton were keeping it tight at the back not allowing the opposition any real chances to get back in it whilst pinpoint passing from Anna was opening up the Leicester defence.  Emily & Ese came on to add some more attacking options and both did well to create chances.

Lyra showed her recovery ability with some great runs and tackles to ensure Chloe had a quiet time of it in goal.  Only some good goalkeeping and the woodwork prevented Rugby from taking a bigger advantage into the break.

The second half followed much the same fashion as the first half with excellent passing through the lines from Megan and Anna which led to lots of opportunities with Amber, Ruby & Ese all going close.

The defence remained solid with Lyra, Ava & Peyton dealing with anything that came there way & special mention to Peyton for a brilliant run over the full length of the pitch.  Emily got in on the action to keep the team pushing forward whilst Chloe remained alert at all times & showed her excellent kicking skills.

Despite the best efforts of everyone there was to be no more goals which made for a slightly nervy ending but the girls stood firm to progress to the Semi Finals.

It was a game where the scoreline didn’t really reflect the match,  the girls delivered a brilliant performance showing great composure to look up and pass their way through the opposition.

Player of the match was Ava for a great defensive performance
