U11 Girls v Haunchwood Hornets

6th September 2021

A great start to the season for the U11 Girls

The girls kicked off the new season with an away trip to face Haunchwood.  Building on last season’s good form the team delivered an amazing performance in a very exciting match.   The team started off on the front foot with Megan displaying her excellent passing to move the team forward.  Anna tested the goalkeeper early with a great long range shot to set the tone for the game.

Emily started as striker and led the line well ensuring that the opposition defenders were kept on their toes.  In defence Lyra & Leah were determined not to let the opposition get past them and made lots of great interceptions & tackles throughout the first half.  Chloe playing in her first league match was excellent in goal showing brilliant handling when called upon and also demonstrating excellent kicking to start attacks.

The 3 girls who were trying out the new subs bench came on through the 1st half with Peyton showing again she can play in any position by taking over up front and using her powerful running to put pressure on the defenders.  Ava playing her first match showed great determination to win the ball back from the opposition whenever they threatened. Sophia slotted effortlessly into the defence and continued where she left off with strong committed tackling whenever it looked as though the opposition might get through.

The highlight though of the first half was a “Worldie” effort from Amber who struck the ball beautifully as everyone held their breath in excitement

Into the 2nd half and having played Haunchwood before we knew they would put pressure on us however Lyra, Leah & Sophia all showed what good defenders they are, breaking up play & playing it forward to start attacks.

Megan was getting through lot of work in the midfield,  showing great composure and accurate passing whilst Ava & Amber were showing their skills by breaking forward at pace with the ball.  Peyton & Emily alternated in attack held the ball up very well to allow the team to get up the pitch.  Anna showed her quick feet to break past 2 defenders and have an excellent effort.

The game then became end to end with both teams creating good chances however Chloe was having a fantastic game in goal to keep the opposition out.

An excellent start to the campaign,  we can’t wait to see what this team can do this season.
