MATCH REPORT

U11 Girls v FC Aztec

7th March 2022

After a few late fitness tests the girls made the trip over the A14 to face a familiar opponent in FC Aztec.   Rugby started a little hesitantly which was unusual and gave Aztec a chance to push forward although some good defending by Peyton and Lyra prevented any real threat.

Soon Rugby got into their stride and started to create some chances with a lot of the attacking threat coming down the wings with powerful running from Amber and Anna who had a good shot saved by the keeper.

The first half was relatively even with Aztec having a few corners which were brilliantly collected by Chloe and then Rugby pushing forward with accurate combination work between Ruby & Megan.   Sophia slotted in well to the defence to ensure Aztec’s attacking threat was minimised whilst Ava was tackling anything in sight.  Ese stretched the defence with her excellent running into the box which kept Aztec’s backline on their toes

The girls were delighted to shoot downhill in the 2nd half and they really took control of the game at this stage.   Amber was sprinting down the wing at will and earned a deserved penalty which was well saved by the Aztec keeper.

This just made the girls even more determined and they got their rewards through an excellent overhead flick by Megan following a great throw in by Ruby.    The girls weren’t finished there, they earned another penalty which again was well saved by the Aztec goalie.  The attacks were flowing now and Ese,Anna & Ruby all had good efforts on goal.

Ava was adding a physical presence in midfield and was able to win the ball on a lot of occasions to allow the team the platform to push forward. At the other end Sophia was showing her excellent reading of the game to intercept attacks whilst Chloe was demonstrating her excellent handling & kicking.  As the half wore on the girls got the reward their attacking flair deserved when Amber converted following continuous pressure in the Aztec box.

Aztec pushed forward at the end but strong defending from Lyra and Peyton ensured it didn’t come to anything.

An excellent performance from the girls who really hit top form in the 2nd half against a good team.

Player of the match was Chloe for excellent handling & commanding of her area
