MATCH REPORT

U11 Girls v Croft Juniors

29th November 2021

The girls arrived at Kilsby Lane for their first match in the top division vs Croft Juniors on a really cold afternoon.  Everyone was keen to see whether they could continue their form against higher opposition & they didn’t disappoint.

Right from the start Rugby pinned the opposition back not allowing them to get up the park and creating chances of their own,  the breakthrough came early from a great corner by Megan that found its way in after a deflection or two.   The theme continued most of the first half with Peyton bringing the ball out of defence to set attacks,  she was well supported by Sophia who was on hand to make numerous great interceptions to stop Croft making an impact.

Ava showed some great skill on the left hand side to turn the defenders and drive forward, she was supported by  Ruby who was holding the ball up well when it came forward to ensure the team remained camped in the Croft half,   a couple of great strikes by Peyton & Megan extended the lead during the first half.

Chloe was expecting a busier time of it & was called into action to make an amazing fingertip save onto the post to deny Croft a goal meanwhile at the other end Emily had a fantastic long range shot that fizzed just wide.

Into the second half and the game became a bit tighter to start with as Croft pushed to get a goal back,  the defence remained resolute though with Leah making some excellent interceptions & forward passes.  Rugby played through this period & soon became dominant again.   Anna and Amber were constant attacking threats and both came close with several chances before Ese on the league debut slotted away a well taken effort.

The girls really embraced the step up and it was fantastic to see them enforce their own style on the game in what was one of the most complete performances of the season.

Player of the match was Peyton for excellent defending & great runs to support the attack.
