MATCH REPORT

U11 Girls v Coalville Rookettes

13th September 2021

U11’s girls continue their great form

The girls expected a competitive & exciting match against last year’s cup winners Coalville and it didn’t disappoint. Determined to stamp their own style on the match Rugby started off on the front foot with excellent link up play between the girls creating several chances.

The defence remained solid throughout the first half with Sophia, Lyra & Peyton all defending brilliantly to limit the chances for Coalville. On the rare occasion that the opposition did get through then Chloe was on hand in goal, looking assured as always.

Megan was having a great match in the middle of park, continuously breaking up play & setting the team on attack whilst on the wings Anna, Amber & Alannah were using their skill & speed to pin the opposition back.

Ruby was giving the opposition a hard time up front with her closing down & strong running.  Emily gave her all to put pressure on the Coalville defence and stretch the game.

Into the second half and Rugby started off well putting sustained pressure on the opponents goal and got their reward with a great effort from Megan.  The team were starting to play some really good football now, in particular one move between Anna, Megan & Amber really showed the capabilities this team have of moving up the field at pace. Coalville were dangerous on the break and they got their rewards somewhat against the run of play.

One of the great things about this group of girls is that if they get a setback they fight back even harder & they threw absolutely everything at this game now with wave after wave of attack. Sophia, Peyton & Lyra kept the door closed at the back & joined in helping the team push forward whilst Chloe kept cool in goal. Emily did her bit to help the team, playing on whilst carrying a knock to ensure the team could keep pushing on.

In between peppering the goal with shots & hitting the woodwork the girls got their rewards through a fine strike by Ruby.

It was a fine display with some relentless attacking play which deserved more goals however everyone can be very pleased with how they have started the season.
