MATCH REPORT

U11 Girls v Burbage

11th October 2021

The girls arrived to this early kick off on the back of some great performances of late.  The first sight of the “old school” pitch raised a few eyebrows however the team were determined to keep their good run going & lined up in a familiar formation.

Unusually Rugby started the match slowly and Burbage pulled ahead early in the match.   It took the girls a bit of time to find their range on the tricky pitch although they were starting to create chances now with some great through balls by Megan and Ava to enable Ruby to run in behind the defence to have a few efforts which the opposition did well to keep out.  Rugby got their reward through some good link up play & the ball falling to Anna who showed great composure in front of goal to take the chance.

Rugby were pushing forward now creating good chances however had to be wary of Burbage who were counter attacking at pace in an exciting game. Lyra, Peyton & Sophia were keeping things tight at the back to prevent the opposition having efforts of target.

Rugby stretched ahead through a cool finish from Megan which they deserved after sustained pressure.  Ava added in a great long range effort that outfoxed the goalie.   As the half was drawing to an end both team were pushing forward when they could however it was Rugby’s finishing that made the difference with an excellent run & shot from Ruby.

Into the second half & it was Rugby attacking for the most part,  in contradiction to the first half the cool finishing in front of goal deserted the girls and they were unable to convert any more of the numerous chances created.   At the other end Burbage continued to threaten & some neat goalkeeping by Chloe kept the scoreline intact until the very end when even her amazing efforts couldn’t prevent Burbage snatching one back.

A special mention to Amber who is recovering from illness but showed excellent determination to play through this & help the team over the line.

The pitch wasn’t conducive to silky football however the girls dug deep creating lots of chances to keep the great run going.

Player of the match was Peyton for a solid defensive performance and covering multiple positions
