MATCH REPORT

U10 Girls v Thurlaston

11th April 2021

I’m not sure about the players but the Coaches & Parent’s certainly needed a lie down after an enthralling rollercoaster of a match.  Both teams played some excellent end to end football that kept everyone entertained from the first whistle to the last

Remarkably this was the first ever home match for the U10’s & it was amazing to see the quality of the pitch that we would be playing on.

Lyra bravely volunteered to go in goal & during the first period she made a series of brilliant saves to keep the opposition out.  Summer who was captaining the team today slotted in beside Peyton & both were strong in the tackle & showed good reading of the game to stop attacks from Thurlaston.  Leah picked up some good positions in central midfield and was able to play the ball out well to start attacks of our own.   The game at this stage was end to end with Amber & Anna working the wings very well to drive forward and create lots of changes whilst Ruby was showing brilliant skill & strength to really take the game to the opposition.  Sophia came on to bolster the defence & once again showed great desire to chase down the ball & put lots of tackles in. Emily showed great composure in midfield to win the ball & set her teammates on their way.

The girls had a well-earned half time break considering it was the first time we played 25 mins straight through.   The second half followed the same pattern as the first with both teams committed to attacking play & this led to lots of opportunities for both teams.  Lyra continued where she left off with several excellent saves again.  Summer & Sophia worked very hard to close down space & protect the goal.  Leah was playing some excellent passes to ensure the team moved up the park whilst Peyton showed real determination to win the ball back when she moved into the midfield position.  Emily slotted in well to the wide midfield position & supported her teammates wherever she could.

Towards the end the girls threw caution to the wind & went all out attack.  Ruby, Anna & Amber led wave after wave of attack to put pressure on the opposition creating many chances right up to the full time whistle.

It was another amazing effort by this young team who continue to improve week on week.

Player of the match was Ruby for excellent skill in the forward areas
