U10 Girls v Rugby Town
The Under 10 girls kicked off the year with an exciting derby match vs our friends at Rugby Town.
Due a mix of illness and Tier restrictions we travelled the short distance with a squad of just 7 & upon seeing the size of the pitch the girls knew they would have plenty of opportunity to work off the Christmas sweets. The girls set up in their now familiar formation & welcomed Ruby into the team for her first match. In the first half the team performed amazingly well against the more experienced Rugby Town team. Sophia & Lyra defended brilliantly to stop the opposition attacks and allow the Borough forward players to come into game. On the occasions that the defence was breached Leah was on hand to make a string of fantastic saves. Ruby settled into the team very well showing excellent skill and was a real threat driving forward with the ball, supported by some great forward play by Emily leading the line and creating space. On the wings Amber and Anna did what they now do consistently in collecting the ball from inside their own half and using their dribbling skills to get the team up the park & create chances.
Into the second half and it was somewhat inevitable that the girls would start to tire after the great effort of the first half however they kept going until the very end. Players moved positions which saw Amber go in goal only to make a fantastic save to divert a goal bound shot over the bar. Leah came out to the wing and helped the team push forward. Emily moved back into defence and showed again her excellent kicking technique to clear the ball whilst Lyra and Sophia continued to make lots of great tackles in defence. Anna & Ruby were starting to form a strong attacking partnership which led to some more chances before the end.
Another performance to be proud of for this new team against strong opposition. Well done to both teams for a great game.
